Jan van Krimpen

Dutch designer

The Dutch designer Jan van Krimpen (1892-1958) spent his career at the printing house of Joh. Enschedé en Zonen in Haarlem.

Typeface designs

Although Jan van Krimpen became famous because of his typeface designs he was also an influential calligrapher and book designer.
Influenced by the work and writings of Edward Johnston, Jan van Krimpen created elegant Roman types such as Lutetia (1925), Romanée (1928), Romulus (1931) and Spectrum (1952).

Classical typography.

The work of Van Krimpen demonstrates finely proportioned classical typography.
Jan van Krimpen was responsible for the lettering and design of many Dutch stamps.
