Anthon Beeke

Dutch designer

The Dutch designer Anthon Beeke (born 1940) was the leading figure in the development of the new-wave graphic design in the Netherlands in the late 1970s.

Beeke overturned conventions

Anthon Beeke overturned conventions; the distinction between function decoration diminished. Anthon Beeke played an important role in Total Design, a design firm in Amsterdam. His freer and more intuitive approach contrasted with the functional tradition of Total Design.

His work

His work consists of advertising, magazines, books, stamps and packaging materials.

Simple forms and signs

In 1981 Beeke established his own studio in Amsterdam. Due to Beeke's ability to work with simple forms and signs he was asked by many corporations. He designed a signage system for the Rotterdam Central Library and many brochures for the Dutch Postal Service (PTT).
