Renzo Piano

On Tour with Renzo Piano

Renzo Piano is an architect whose work seems increasingly relevant to our times. One of the few architects to be intimately involved in each stage of a building's development, from its concept and masterplan to its construction and detailing, Renzo Piano's insights into his own projects are revealing and insightful. Each new design never fails to be innovative and exciting.
On Tour with Renzo Piano offers the rare opportunity to join Renzo Piano himself on a journey around 22 of his key buildings, each presented through personal text and a photographic tour, which takes the reader from the external to the internal and to the detail. The selection includes the impressive Centre Georges Pompidou, the Beyeler Foundation and Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Center. Also presenting the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, this book offers an intimate guide to the work of one of the most respected and visionary architects of our time.

Bruno Minardi by Kenneth Frampton

Although the designs and writings of Italian architect and professor, Bruno Minardi have been published internationally, this is the first monograph on his work to appear in English. Theoretical in its approach, with an incisive text by Kenneth Frampton, this beautiful volume presents the architect's recurring themes of attention to context and rapport with existing architecture. In addition to essays and articles written by the architect, it features projects throughout Europe, with a focus on those in Italy, as well as a selection of his watercolors and etchings.

Bernard Maybeck: Visionary Architect

Gracefully written and brilliantly illustrated, this handsome new volume captures the vision, the wit, and the down-to-earth inventiveness of one of the most influential and beloved architects of the early twentieth century. Raised in Greenwich Village and trained in Paris, Bernard Maybeck spent most of his long career in northern California. An irrepressible bohemian with no desire to run a large office, he spent much of his time designing houses for friends and family, as well as for other patrons so loyal that they often hired him to design more than one house.
Bernard Maybeck also created two of the most beautiful buildings in all of California: the exhilarating Church of Christ, Scientist, in Berkeley, and the gloriously romantic Palace of Fine Arts, in San Francisco. This incisive overview - the first to feature color reproductions of Bernard Maybeck's exquisite interiors and exteriors - analyzes every aspect of his life and work. Not only is his architecture thoroughly discussed and illustrated but also his furniture, his lighting designs, and his innovations in fire-resistant construction. The book is also enlivened by documentary photographs, by clearly drawn plans, and by several of Bernard Maybeck's dazzling, previously unpublished visionary drawings.
Bernard Maybeck is a major study of an internationally significant architect whose environmentally responsive work has much to offer today's designers and whose houses have given enormous pleasure to those fortunate enough to visit or dwell in them.
